AEON FLUX
Charlize Theron gets my vote for versatility this year. The range from North Country to Aeon Flux is vast and I hope she’s up to the task. With the lack of competition this weekend here in North America, this movie might do something. It has a built in cult-boy following, but I don’t know if it’ll be enough to make a dent.

RENT
What is now an “All-Star” cast featuring Rosario Dawson, Taye Diggs and Jesse L. Martin form the core of the cast in RENT. Based on the Broadway musical of the same name, this film is directed by Chris Columbus. The poster echos the posters from the musical, so it’s sure to bring that audience in.

SYRIANA
George Clooney and Matt Damon reteam on this film which also stars Amanda Peet. The writer/director, Stephen Gaghan, won the best screenplay Oscar for Traffic.

THE ICE HARVEST
John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton and Connie Nielsen star in this film, but I wonder if any of them can save it? There’s nothing beyond generic about this poster or the campaign for this film. Perhaps I’ll be wrong.

YOURS, MINE AND OURS
Big families must be in. I mean, The Brady Bunch was so popular (sarcasm) that they’ve tried to trump it. These 2 families come together and end up with 20 people. That’s more than Cheaper By The Dozen (sequel in production) . For when you just can’t get enough, make a movie about a family in Costco sized batches. I don’t know when they found time to have all those kids, while having all those kids. And anybody who looks like Rene Russo has NOT had 10 kids, or 8, or even 2.

My pick for best movie poster this week - RENT.
