Opening July 29!

What do you get when VIRUS meets TOP GUN? Apparently, STEALTH. This poster has all the hallmarks of the “look-at-me” movie. A trio of America’s finest pilots in silhouette, ominous clouds with rays of sunshine, and a large phallic symbol (airplane) too. Ok, I’m not excited about this movie, nor the poster, but it should be a fun ride with lots of thrills and excitement. Be sure to check your brain at the door.

Again, conflicted. A highly “American” poster with lots of red, white & blue to subtly appeal to the patriotic, yet a blatant attempt by Disney to ride the hot super-hero craze without coming up with anything new. It’s The Incredibles meets X-Men (dysfunctional family, school, super-powers, you do the math). But hey, it’s got Kurt Russell, Kelly Preston and Wonder Woman (aka Linda Carter), so the kids will eat it up. What? That’s before their time…oops.

Oddly, my favorite poster of the week. Diane Lane, John Cusack, Elizabeth Perkins, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher Plummer, Stockard Channing in a movie together… Trailer space must have been hard to come by. The film looks cute, and the poster, while pretty simple does a good job of conveying the film’s theme, and catching a nice spark (bark?) between the 3.

The Fog

Exactly one hundred years ago, off the rocky shore of an isolated Northern California town, a ship of lepers was horribly wrecked in an eerie fog when the founders of the town purposefully misguided the ship, dooming everyone aboard. Now, tonight, the ghosts of the long-dead mariners have returned from their watery graves to exact revenge. Shrouded within a supernatural fog, the ghosts trap the residents of the remote community, intent on seeking out the descendents of those who founded the town…and killing anyone who stands in their murderous path. (From IMDB)

Tom Welling (Smallville) stars in remake, filmed in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Summer Reading

Summer time is not only great for sitting in an air-conditioned theater but for relaxing on a beach, or in your backyard with a good book. Why not combine the 2 and read a movie? Here’s a link to Amazon with some suggestions for Summer Reading.

Opening July 22!

When I first heard about this movie, I thought they were remaking The Prisoner - you know the tv series. But this hot action movie with Ewen McGregor and Scarlett Johannson seems cooler. A mysterious island where people are kept for reasons unknown, and lied to? Well, I think it sounds exciting.

Nobody ever accused me of being nostalgic, but I’m not a fan of the re-made 70s version of this poster. So I’m pointing you this one. Simple, bright, colorful, which is probably better than the movie will be. Billy Ray Th… Billy Bob Thornton gets to be a cantakerous old guy, coaching a sports team. The story’s older than he is.

Alright, I coughed up the bucks earlier this summer for Romero’s disaster of a horror flick, so I’m lukewarm on zombies & evil things right now. But these 2 posters from Rob Zombie’s movie are hot! I couldn’t decide which one I liked more. They both have cool images, and I might even see this, even though I couldn’t sit through House of 1000 Corpses.

Pretty much an “also ran”, the art on this poster doesn’t inspire me so much as make me ask “Why?” We’ve got the actors, some pretty simple shots of cars, and all that tattoo-like flow… Why?

Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire

As I write this, the newest Harry Potter book is due out in 24 hours. The poster for movie number 4, Goblet of Fire has a very dark and mysterious look. The traditional fog and silhouette, broomstick, and of course Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter. This wasn’t my favorite book of them all, that’s Order of the Phoenix, but this should be a good, if shortened version of a good book.
